P-CEP's Rhiana Savoie Races Her Way to National Ski Championships

P-CEP's Rhiana Savoie Races Her Way to National Ski Championships

While winter sports fans around the world watched elite athletes like Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn, and Breezy Johnson compete on the Olympic stage in Italy this winter, Plymouth High School junior Rhiana Savoie was making an impressive mark of her own on slopes closer to home.

Savoie recently earned a spot at the U.S. Under-18 Alpine Skiing Championships in Mittersill, New Hampshire—an achievement that highlights years of dedication to her sport.

A lifelong skier, Savoie first hit the slopes at age four and began racing at nine. Today, she balances the demands of her academic schedule at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP) with a rigorous training program at a ski hill in Clarkston. Each year, she spends approximately 100 days on the snow, managing schoolwork alongside travel to competitions across the country.

Her qualification for the national championships came through strong performances in the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Central Division, where she is a reigning age group title holder. Alpine skiing competitions test athletes across four disciplines: Downhill, Super-G (Super Giant Slalom), Giant Slalom, and Slalom.

Savoie has also contributed to the P-CEP ski team during her high school career, serving as one of the team's leaders during the program's inaugural season.
