P-CEP Dance Team, Canton Pompon Team Capture Championship Titles

If you’ve attended an athletic event at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park, chances are you’ve seen the P-CEP Dance Team and Canton High School Pompon Team energizing the crowd and helping build school spirit.

Recently, both teams had the opportunity to shine on their own competitive stages — and they delivered in a big way. The P-CEP Dance Team captured a National Championship in the Jazz Division at the Dance Team Union National Finals in Orlando, Florida, while the Canton Pompon Team earned the Mid-American Pompon Michigan State Championship.

Success on the national stage has become a tradition for the P-CEP Dance Team program. This year marks the third consecutive national championship for the varsity team at the highly competitive event. Adding to the program’s impressive showing, the junior varsity squad also captured its first national title. Both teams were further recognized for their talent and depth when they were invited to perform additional routines during the competition’s “battle” phase, which highlights programs with exceptional skill across multiple routine formats..

For the Canton Pompon Team, the state championship season required months of preparation and precision. The team developed and perfected a routine lasting between two and three minutes, advancing to the state finals through regional competition. Competition rules emphasize both technique and synchronization, including a requirement for 32 beat counts of a controlled kickline. The state finals were held last month at Eastern Michigan University’s George Gervin GameAbove Center.
