P-CCS Launches New High School Course on Responsible AI Use

P-CCS Launches New High School Course on Responsible AI Use

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to expand its global influence, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools (P-CCS) is proud to lead the way in innovative education by introducing a new course, “Understanding and Using AI Responsibly,” for high school students at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP).

Beginning in the second semester of the 2025–26 school year, this course will help students develop a strong foundation in ethical AI use and digital literacy. It aims to equip students with the skills to think critically about the rapidly evolving role of AI in society.

Course topics include:

  • Ethics in AI decision-making
  • AI capabilities and limitations
  • AI's role in digital citizenship
  • Real-world applications of responsible technology and AI use
  • Basic programming
  • AI-generated likenesses and their impact
  • The importance of fact-checking AI outputs
  • Guest presentations by industry experts

“AI is already here. It's not a question of if or when — it's a question of how we prepare our students for it,” said Jeff Blakeslee, P-CCS teacher and co-instructor for the course. “We hope students will understand how AI started, how it's being used, and prepare them for a future where AI has destroyed many traditional jobs, but is also creating ones that haven't previously existed.

Students may take the course for either a Career and Technical Education (CTE) credit or English Language Arts (ELA) credit. Those interested in enrolling should consult their P-CEP counselor.
